DUTSE – The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jigawa State has issued a strong warning against persistent unruly behavior allegedly orchestrated by supporters of former Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, popularly referred to as “Badaru Boys”.
In a statement signed by the State Secretary, Muhammad Dikuma Umar, the party condemned recent acts of misconduct targeted at Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi during political gatherings in Gumel, Babura, Garki and most recently at a government town hall meeting in Kafin Hausa tagged “Government and the People.”
According to the APC, the said group has consistently hurled insults, spread propaganda, and attempted to undermine the authority of the incumbent Governor Namadi through various platforms including social and mainstream media.
The statement alleged that during the last Ramadan, APC ward chairmen in Babura Local Government were deceived into attending a political gathering at the former governor’s residence under the pretext of receiving Zakkat. The party described the move as a propaganda strategy aimed at securing loyalty to the former governor.
Despite the provocations, Governor Namadi has reportedly urged his supporters to remain calm and not retaliate, stressing that Jigawa remains one united state and APC one united party.
However, the state chapter of the APC warned that it may be left with no choice but to invoke Article 21 of the APC Constitution, which prescribes sanctions against actions capable of causing disobedience, factionalization, and disrepute within the party.
The party also called on security agencies in Jigawa State to take proactive measures to forestall further breaches of peace, warning that continued unruly conduct could plunge the situation out of control.
“This attitude of unruly boys, if unchecked, will only embarrass the party, bring it into contempt, hatred, and ridicule,” the statement concluded.
