Jigawa State Governor, Mallam Umar A. Namadi FCA, has initiated a groundbreaking empowerment program, allocating N30,000 to each of the 1,000 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). The event unfolded at the Manpower Development Institute (MDI) in collaboration with the Ministry of Women Affairs and the Jigawa State Agency for Empowerment and Employment.

This marks the first instance since Jigawa State's inception where the Governor has empowered 1,000 PWDs across all 27 local government areas.

Following closely on the heels of the Governor's launch of the empowerment program for 4,239 SMEs with N50,000, this event builds on the State Government's previous initiatives, which included empowering over 1,000 women and 1,500 youths.

Governor Namadi, in his address, affirmed his commitment and steadfastness to implementing the 12-point Agenda for the development of Jigawa State.

Furthermore, the Governor has directed the Jigawa State Ministry of Women Affairs to revisit the PWDs register and propose amendments to the 2007 Jigawa State law governing disability allowances, currently set at N7,000. The proposed amendments aim to facilitate the replacement of deceased PWDs, review the existing allowance, and increase provisions for more PWDs.

Distinguished guests at the event included the Jigawa State Deputy Governor, Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff to the Government House, Jigawa State APC Chairman, local government chairmen, DG of Jigawa Empowerment and Employment Agency, and other attendees.
